Diamond Infrastructure and Third Pillar Solar Partner on 500 MW Floating Solar Projects Across Texas
Two Houston-based companies, Diamond Infrastructure Solutions and Third Pillar Solar, have formed a groundbreaking partnership to develop 500 MW of floating solar projects across Texas reservoirs by the end of the decade. With more than $700 million in investment backing, the collaboration aims to transform underutilized water surfaces into renewable energy hubs, while also reducing water evaporation losses and preserving valuable agricultural land. The projects will be a key part of Texas's ongoing push to diversify its energy mix and expand its clean power capabilities. Diamond, which is majority-owned by Dow, is granting exclusive access to its vast network of Texas reservoirs, providing the critical real estate for these floating solar installations. Meanwhile, Third Pillar, supported by Glentra Capital, will handle the development and operation of the projects. With an ambitious pipeline of over 60 floating solar initiatives, Third Pillar is positioning itself as a leader in the rapidly expanding sector. “This partnership represents a major leap forward for clean energy in Texas,” said a spokesperson from Diamond. “By tapping into these underutilized resources, we’re not only creating a new renewable energy asset but also addressing critical environmental challenges like water conservation.” Both companies highlighted the transformative potential of the floating solar projects, which will deliver cost-competitive, utility-scale solar power to meet the growing demand for clean energy in the state. The initiative underscores the increasing importance of innovative solutions in the global transition to sustainable energy.
