ArcelorMittal Invests $1.2 Billion in Alabama for Electrical Steel Plant ⚙️

Luxembourg-based steel giant ArcelorMittal has announced a $1.2 billion investment to expand its manufacturing site in Calvert, Alabama. The project will add a facility capable of producing 150,000 metric tons of non-grain-oriented electrical steel (NOES) annually, crucial for automotive, transportation, and renewable energy sectors. Construction is set to begin by mid-2025, with production starting in 2027. The facility will rely on semi-finished steel from ArcelorMittal’s nearby electric arc furnace plant, reinforcing a domestic supply chain for high-quality electrical steel and reducing U.S. dependence on imports.
