Effluent Treatment

In all industrial installations, from food and beverage to chemicals and petrochemicals, from textile to pulp and paper, Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWT) or Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP) are critical for their economy and efficiency. Industries are deemed responsible for the amount of freshwater they use and the quantity and quality of the wastewater streams they return to the environment into lakes, rivers, or seas. Concerning the specific industrial process, ETPs could face, in principle, an extremely heterogeneous chemical composition: vegetable or mineral oil and hydrocarbons, suspended solids, dissolved organics, chemical compounds challenging to oxidize, acidic or alkaline chemicals, hydrogen sulfide, and heavy metals. Due to the variability of sources, flow rates, and chemical composition, our team can design ETPs with maximum flexibility. A sequence of several “unit operations” can be foreseen facing all the theoretical conditions without affecting reliability and performance. In principle, a typical ETP may be arranged with the following different sections: Pre-treatment includes screening, equalization, or neutralization sections Oil separation, including API, TPI, CPI, flotation, or chemical-physical treatments Biological oxidation comprises extended aeration, EmbioArt® Membrane Bioreactor (MBR), Sequence-Batch Reactor (SBR), Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR), and anaerobic processing Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOP), a set of chemical treatment processes capable of oxidizing recalcitrant organic contaminants which biological oxidation hardly destroys Tertiary treatment includes media filtration, activated carbon filters, disinfection, and reuse, including Microfiltration (MF) and Ultrafiltration (UF) Sludge treatment including a thickener, centrifuge decanter, and filter press We also have great experience applying Reverse Osmosis (RO) to treated wastewater, allowing complete demineralization and thus driving towards the Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) philosophy. An effluent treatment plant displays the most complex and articulated scheme in the water business. Rely on Cannon Artes’ experience to make it – if not simple – worry-free.
